Self-hosted or hosted: which uncensored image generator?
You can run an unfiltered image model on your own computer or use a hosted service. They suit different people.
Self hosted
- Full control: models, LoRAs, samplers, extensions.
- Needs a capable graphics card and time to set up and update.
- No per image fee, but hardware and electricity cost money.
- No provider can close your account, and the legal responsibility is entirely yours.
Hosted
- Works in a browser or by API on any device.
- Pay per image with no hardware.
- Rules are set by the host and the model provider.
- Quicker to start, less to tune.
Which to choose
If you generate a lot and like tinkering, a local setup pays for itself. If you want results now, on any device, hosted is simpler. Ablate is the hosted route.
Questions
How strong a graphics card do I need?
It depends on the model. Larger ones need much more video memory than SDXL, so check the model's own requirements before buying anything.
